Panevėžys Local Lore Museum, one of the oldest Lituanian regional museum, was established in the house of the wealthy city nobility Moigiai in 1925. Tadas Anupras Moigis, a doctor and public figure, was the developer of the complex consisting of three buildings. At the beginning of its lifetime, the museum had around 2000 items on display, in 1939 their number exceeded 12 000 and in 2013 the museum's collection had more than 100 000 exhibits. Visitors can explore the impressive collection of insects amassed by naturalist Walerian Straszewicz as well as archaeology, ethnography, history exhibits and changing exhibitions, and educational programmes.
